Drake University journalism students were the big winners in the 2014 AEJMC Student Magazine Contest, grabbing a total of 12 awards, including four first-place prizes. Contest entries are judges by media professionals.
First-place winners were:
- Think magazine for Single Issue of Ongoing Magazine, General Excellence.
- Meagan Flynn for Consumer Magazine Article, Places and Consumer Magazine Article, Feature with the same article about the one-person town of Monowi, Nebraska.
- Hali Ortega for Individual Start-Up Magazine Project with Minimal Living.
“We worked really hard to make something we were proud of, but it’s great to get that validation from industry professionals,” said Rachel Weeks, the editor-in-chief for Think, which was the spring capstone project for senior magazine and news/Internet students. “I was lucky to have a large, talented staff that wanted to make Think Mag as good as it could possibly be; it wouldn’t have happened without that commitment.”
