Catherine M. Staub

Associate Professor Catherine M. Staub, Ed.D., is the founder and CEO of Lexicon Content Marketing, and has held jobs at Meredith Corporation and Wells Fargo.

Jeff Inman

Assistant Professor of Journalism

Jeff Inman has spent the last 15 years documenting the ever-morphing world of pop culture. He’s been the Arts and Entertainment Editor at three alternative newsweeklies, starting with the Des Moines-based Cityview and ending with the Las Vegas Weekly. In between he helped launch the Sin City music monthly Noise, received numerous accolades from the Nevada and Utah Press Associations, including Utah’s 2001 Media and Criticism Writer of the Year, and covered the Strip and surrounding city for Billboard and Rolling Stone.

Returning to Iowa in late 2001, Jeff started freelancing for numerous magazines before getting a Master’s degree in Education from Drake in 2008. He joined the School of Journalism and Mass Communication as an adjunct professor in 2006.


Jill Van Wyke

Assistant Professor of Journalism

Jill Van Wyke  teaches reporting, editing, visual communication and multimedia journalism courses, primarily in the News and Magazine Media programs. She is also adviser to the student newspaper, The Times-Delphic, and oversees publication of Think magazine, an award-winning news magazine published as part of the senior capstone course. Prior to joining Drake, she was a reporter and editor at the Des Moines Register for almost 12 years.

Patricia Prijatel

E.T. Meredith Distinguished Professor of Journalism emeritus

Patricia Prijatel is the E.T. Meredith Distinguished Professor of Journalism emeritus, retired director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the founder of the E.T. Meredith Center for Magazine Studies. She headed Drake’s magazine sequence for 24 years; under her direction, students created multiple award-winning magazines: 515,Think, Des Moines Health and Fitness, Des Moines Brides, DM, and Des Moines magazine, plus the specialty titles Launch, Re-Enter, Ready Kids, and Connect Des Moines. She partnered with Meredith Corporation to create the Meredith Home and Family Magazine Journalism Apprenticeships, the Meredith Scholarships, and endowed funding for capstone magazine production.

She is the winner of the Madelyn Levitt Teacher of the Year award, the Alumni Achievement Award from Drake University and the Mass Communications Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Southern Colorado, and has twice been nominated for Drake’s Madelyn Levitt Mentor of the Year award.

Prijatel is the co-author of The Magazine from Cover to Cover, (http://www.oup.com) now in its second edition and used in universities throughout the world. She has been a first-round judge for the National Magazine awards and has judged professional publications for multiple trade and consumer publishers.

She continues writing health articles for magazines such as Better Homes and Gardens, Diabetic Living, MAMM, Heart Healthy Living, Beyond Breast Cancer, and Greenwise, She is writing a book on breast cancer, to be published in 2010 by Oxford University Press. In addition to her Drake blog, she blogs about breast cancer at Positives and Negative.
